ISO 9001:2015 – Constant Improvement

It’s been over two years since we received our ISO 9001:2015 certification. Since that time E-Z-Hook has been through three successful audits.  We are proud of our ongoing improvements that are constantly being implemented across departments.

Constant Improvement | Expect Excellence

We consistently review internal and external feedback to improve our procedures and ensure our customers get not only the best service, but the best quality product.  E-Z-Hook is proud of the effort our team places on adhering and living by the spirit of the ISO 9001:2015 standard.

We like to think our products are certifiably well made – why don’t you give them a try and tell us!

Manufacturing Insulation Piercing Needle Clusters

These needle clusters are used not only in E-Z-Hook products, but sold as raw material components to many of our clients. We even sell them to “competitors” for use in their products! While we are known for finished goods, many of our raw material components are available for sale. Over 20 years ago we started making these needle clusters for our p/n 82-2.

Since then we have developed variations with 23 to 33 needles. These are hand assembled in our plant in California by the thousands.  Contact us to meet your design requirements with our needle cluster technology. This product technology is popular with our Aerospace and Defense clientele.

This Shrouded Plug Doesn’t Fit

In the world of shrouded banana plugs and sockets, E-Z-Hook has a simple solution when your old meter doesn’t accept the newer shrouded banana plug leads that most companies manufacture as “standard” today. You don’t need to update your perfectly good meter, just invest in our part number 9371 which offers a standard banana plug with shrouded socket. Use its standard plug to gain access to your meter and then plug your shrouded test lead into the rear of the plug. Now you can use both standard and shrouded plugs.

Recently a Power Company approached us with certain requirements for two different test lead options. Their field technicians had various Fluke meters, some accepting shrouded plug and some that did not. They were not in a position to standardize meters, but wanted a specialized banana plug test lead that could work with a shrouded meter, yet allowed for another plug (shrouded or non-shrouded) to be plugged in or stacked in the back. The test lead needed to have this stacking shrouded banana plug connector to an alligator clip. In addition they needed color coding on the leads for easy identification. With the E-Z-Hook kilo color options we were able to provide leads in one solid color (connector and wire) as well as leads that had connectors in one color and the wire in another color. Ultimately we made test leads in 6 different color combinations, all 16 feet long, and all with a shrouded banana plug connector to alligator clip. Customer satisfied!

So what was the solution for the field technicians with old meters that wouldn’t accept a shrouded plug test lead? Easy. We were able to provide a similar customized test lead option by combining our 9371 standard plug which has a stacking shrouded socket, to a 9306 shrouded banana plug. This option then gave those technicians with an older style meter to use any of the company designed shrouded test leads. The shrouded banana plug could stack in the back of our 9371 or into the 9306 on the other side. These lead options created a better level of uniformity and the Power Company was not required to replace and unify older meters for their large technician base.

E-Z-Flex Connector Kits Service Industries From Aerospace to Telecommunication

The E-Z-Flex connector kits are available in two standard configurations.  Each kit contains sixteen connectors, both offering 4 unique sized pins and sockets in flexible insulated shields.

E-Z-Hook’s original flexible connector kit p/n 9099-0316 was designed for both the automotive and aerospace fields. Since it’s inception it has found popularity across multiple industries where electronic connections are required. This kit offers all connectors with a standard banana socket on one side, and eight varying sizes of gold plated pins and socket connectors on the other end. The pin and socket dimensions included in the kit are .030″ (.762mm), .040″ (1.016mm), .062″ (1.575mm), and .094″ (2.388). The flexible insulation is a molded plastic, provided in both red and black.

A few years ago E-Z-Hook was approached by a large US based generator company servicing the telecommunication, industrial, and commercial industries. They liked the versatility of the e-z-flex components, however they required a .080″ pin socket instead of a banana socket in our E-Z-Flex connector line. We created some customized  pin and socket dimensions specifically for their use.  This customer driven project made us recognize a simple need that many of our customers across industries required. With those requirements in mind E-Z-Hook created our 9099-0491 kit product line. This E-Z-Flex kit 9099-0491 was introduced in late 2015 and provides all E-Z-Flex connectors with .080″ pin sockets on the one side. When your connection component has a pin plug this versatile kit provides the solution.

All parts in both kits are also available individually for purchase.

Defense and Security Applications

These handy little devices represent the XB product line created for the defense and security industries. Originally a “modification” to our 82-2 harness board product, these wire piercing devices are fully insulated on the exterior and offer a screw down clamp to ensure a secure and solid connection upon engagement with the wire. Once the XB is hooked on you can rest assured that it isn’t coming off until you decide to physically unclamp the device. The V-grove above the nailbed allows for various sized wire dimensions and ensures they can easily be directed over the wire bed for optimal connection. We understand there is often no room for technician error in the field- and this product was made with that requirement in mind.

The XB parts are available in red, yellow and black with factory installed leads. The most preferred lead is an 18 gauge PVC wire to a shrouded banana plug, but contact us for various connector options. This product is also available as a lead set or kit for specific industry requirements.

Power Company Test Leads

A large multi-state Mid-West power company approached E-Z-Hook to see if we could manufacture custom leads using the copper blade version of our macro-hook test connectors, model XH and XHL. The leads would ultimately be used by plant technicians testing power and required a secure right angle bend on the hooks.

Included in the requirement was the ability to close the power circuit after checking that the hook connection was properly connected. We designed in a “key” concept they requested. It was built into the jumper, allowing the user to close the circuit after the connection was verified as good. Additionally we designed jumpers with a similar fused “key” for further security which was required in some test environments. In the end, E-Z-Hook created four variations of leads, some containing a 3 AMP, 250 Volt fuse.

Making Products the Old Fashioned Way

Since 1956 E-Z-Hook has been making quality test products and accessories. Sure we have changed, grown, and added product lines. As required we have altered our manufacturing process to ensure our product line adheres to regulations such as REACH, ROHS, and the Dodd-Frank Conflict Mineral Act. We no longer operate out of a personal garage in Kentucky like we did in 1956, but in our own 24,000 square foot manufacturing plant in Arcadia, California. Instead of one person designing and making the products, we have a team of employees, many with over 25 years of experience.

WE HAVE CHANGED. WE HAVE GROWN. WE ARE DIFFERENT………

OR ARE WE REALLY JUST THE SAME?

It caught my attention while I was filing away old marketing materials that our marketing message was the same. How funny. In hearing this you might think, yikes, 60 years and still saying the same thing? Yes, in fact, 60 years and we are still saying the same thing. It’s not because our marketing department has been lazy, or ineffective, or void of fresh ideas. It’s because 60 years ago our marketing focus was on the attributes of our products. Those product attributes haven’t changed, and we are proud of that!

Thinking Outside the Box

IMG_2342IMG_2338E-Z-Hook has a long history of working with clients who need assistance developing a custom product to fulfill their needs. From the outside the solutions was simple – a box. It was the inside components, which included fuses and switches, that made the little box more complicated.

Working closely with the client E-Z-Hook developed 3 separate prototypes that could work with the clients test jumper applications. The final solution addressed the clients’ needs for a Test Jumper Junction Box. The finished product used both standard and custom components. The design included a toggle switch or momentary switch that allowed fuse capabilities to be switched on or off with the various test applications.
In the end, the solution was “in the box”, a small plastic box. The device allowed the customer to supply their technicians with a simply solution which allowed them to easily amplify their testing capabilities.  A single custom solution provided a complete kit.
